Overview

Description:

The focus of the Old-Growth Forest Network is publicly accessible forests, but we also recognize the importance of private landowners who have made the commitment to keep their forests unlogged. Often these owners are sacrificing timber income to let their forests mature and provide habitat, beauty, clean water and clean air. We honor and recognize their generosity. Public access may be allowed, or not, on these forests. That decision is made on a case by case basis by the owners. If you own a forest that you have decided will remain unlogged (either through formal or informal protection) we welcome you to fill out the nomination form so you, too, can become part of the "Private Forest" community in the Old-Growth Forest Network. Eligible forests are recognized through our website, a plaque, and a letter of acceptance.

Eligibility:

Old-growth or mature forest area set aside from commercial logging through a "Forever Wild" Easement, Deed Restriction, Management Plan, or similar program. Landowners who do not currently have any of these programs in place can sign a Memorandum of Agreement with the Old-Growth Forest Network that their forested area is set aside from commercial logging. Exceptions include wildfire management, hazard trees, and invasive species.
