Overview

Description:

Farmers enrolled in the program agree to convert highly erodible cropland or other environmentally sensitive acreage to vegetative cover, such as tame or native grasses, wildlife plantings, trees, filterstrips, or riparian buffers. The program is a 10-15 year contract to convert highly erodible cropland or other environmentally sensitive acreage to vegetative cover, such as tame or native grasses, wildlife plantings, trees, filterstrips, or riparian buffers.

Eligibility:

You must have owned and/or operated your land for at least 12 months
before enrollment (with exceptions).

Financial benefit: 

Farmers receive an annual rental payment for the term of the multi-year contract. Cost sharing is provided to establish the vegetative cover practices.
