Funding and technical support for salmon recovery in streams that drain into the Snake River.
Overview
Description:
Palouse Conservation District is a Lead Entity for Salmon Recovery projects within Whitman County. Streams that originate in Whitman County and drain into the Snake River eligible for project funding include Steptoe, Wawawai, and Almota Creeks in the Palouse Conservation District boundary and Penewawa in the Whitman Conservation District boundary.
We work with land managers looking to protect and restore critical habitat for ESA-listed summer steelhead.
Eligibility:
Eligible landowners need documented steelhead presence within streams on their property. Landowners or producers who have steelhead streams and are interested in reestablishing in-stream and riparian habitat should contact us!
Financial benefit:
Eligible participants receive technical and financial assistance to implement habitat projects.
Habitat for steelhead is 85% covered by grants in eligible streams.
Projects are documented to store water and keep it in watersheds longer.
In-stream structures and Beaver Dam Analogs (BDAs) help recover riparian areas and species.
Beavers help store water and promote the development of off-channel habitat.
