Overview

Description:

We offer both technical and financial assistance (when available) to assist landowners and producers both large and small. Our cost-share programs are largely grant funded so we are always open to hearing your project ideas so that we can potentially match it with an available grant cycle. Our programs are flexible, and can accommodate varying levels of interest. Below are a variety of programs with varying requirements and benefits.

1. Do filter strips and riparian buffers sound like a good fit for your property? Do you live along the South Fork Palouse River, North Fork Palouse River and Union Flat Creek that flow into the Snake River? You could be eligible for our Conservation Reserve Enhancement Program (CREP) Visit the website to learn more.
2. Conservation Tillage, Direct Seeding, No-Till: The District has cost-share options available to farmers to help transition from conventional agricultural techniques to more soil conservation activities for erosion control and soil health.
3. Precision Agriculture: A new program is being developed to aid farmers with precision Ag; from GPS based systems to variable fertilizer applications.
4. Filter strips and riparian restoration: These systems can help control excess soil and nutrients from running off your land and into the nearby streams. Our buffer programs compensate farmers for planting and maintaining riparian waterways on their property. We have several buffer programs (include CREP) with different levels of intensity, maintenance, and requirements
5. Commodity Buffers: Minimum $200 per acre per year payment for a strip of herbaceous vegetation established at the edge of any waterway
6. Livestock Practices: Whether you are looking for technical or financial assistance, we are here to help with your soil and water conservation efforts. From grazing management plans to help with fencing, off-stream watering facilities, heavy use area protection and pasture reseeding, we can develop a plan that works for your operation.
7. Cover Crops, Crop Rotation, and Nutrient Management: Interested in whats going on beneath the surface? Our offices can provide soil testing and nutrient management suggestions that could help optimize your soil to its highest potential with the right plan for you.
8. Small farms/small acreage issues: We understand not all landowners are large producers. We can assist you as well. We have helped numerous small farms and small acreage landowners on various issues.
9. Water quality monitoring and soil sample design and collection: We can help you develop a monitoring protocol for whatever your needs may be.

Thinking about more than one program? No problem! We are happy to make a conservation plan for all your needs
